As this top ten PS3 games of 2007 list demonstrates, the first full year of the PS3 saw not only amazing games, but innovation that we have never seen before in a home console. From The Eye of Judgment bringing collectible trading cards to life, to Uncharted's jaw dropping graphics, which are among the best of any home videogame to date, the PS3 is finally starting to show what being the most technically advanced videogame console ever released means.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune not only proved that the adventure genre is far from dead, but that the games can be intense, memorable experiences. Technically, Uncharted is unparalleled. No game this year comes even close to the stunning graphics, art direction, sound effects, and music that graces this game, and given competition from games like Halo 3 that's saying a lot.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is more that good looks, however, the story is engaging, the writing is clever and witty, at times hilarious, and the voice acting is second to none. Uncharted doesn't come close to being a movie, it proves that videogames are their own art form equal to them. This is one action adventure game you simply cannot miss. Rated: Teen

2. Half-Life 2: The Orange Box - Best Value of the Year

Let's see, for the price of one game you get five, and each one is stellar. Yeah, that happens every so... well never.

Half-Life 2: The Orange Box includes:

Half Life 2: Episode 2
Portal
Team Fortress 2

The Half-Life branded games alone are more than worth the price of admission, especially if you missed them the first time around. Portal is this year's watercooler game, the one everyone is talking about. Team Fortress 2 proves that you can have serious multiplayer fun without having the dark mutants gone wild look of most online first person shooters.

The Orange Box is fun on so many levels that it was a strong contender for Game of the Year. Rated: Mature

3. The Eye of Judgment - Most Innovative Game of the Year

Another close one for best value, The Eye of Judgment comes with the game, the PlayStation Eye (USB camera used for other games as well), a deck of Eye of Judgment cards, a play mat, and a stand for the PlayStation Eye.

But what is it? It is a customizable card game in the vien of Macgic the Gathering, Yu-gi Oh! or Pokemon, with one key exception, the game brings the cards to life.

Place a card in front of the PlayStation Eye and presto, a 3D version of it comes to life on screen ready to do battle with another card.

The game itself was surprisingly good, and the PS3 keeps track of all the rules, so no bickering as is so common in normal card games. The Eye of Judgment is something you must see to believe. Rated: Teen

4. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Shooter of the Year

Call of Duty was synonymous with WWII based shooters, but not not anymore. With Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare gone are the trenches of continental Europe, only to be replaced with Russian farmhouses and Middle Eastern cities.

With stunning graphics and a varied story, CoD4 is a solid game, but it is the multiplayer that really makes this title stand out.

From excellent maps and a variety of weapons to unlockable content, this is the game you want to go online with and live out your armchair soldier fantasies. Rated: Mature

5. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock - Music Game of the Year

What, no Rock Band? Here me out, while I too love the Rock Band, it's simply too risky. Too many broken guitars means you should wait for them to sort out their manufacturing and buy it in the spring. So, if you were wondering if you should get Rock Band or Guitar Hero III, the choice is easy, Guitar Hero III is not only excellent, but it also works.

With a new developer many were frightened of what the game would become, let me squash those fears, Guitar Hero III rocks as hard as the previous games. Throw in new boss battles and competitive modes and you have an excellent sequel.

Guitar Hero III is not as pretty or as varied as Rock Band, but it costs less and works more often, which seals its place on this list. Rated: Teen

6. Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction - Platformer of the Year

Another one of the best looking games of the year Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction brings run and gun platforming to a whole new level with inspired level design and laugh out loud antics.

Ratchet & Clank Future is a very clever game that will have you torn between exploring every nook and cranny of its lush landscape and running through it as fast as you can to find out what happens next, either way you won't be disappointed. Though rated teen, the humor and action is benign, I would have given it an E10+ as tweeners are as likely as any to fall in love with this cute, yet satisfying platformer. Rated: Everyone 10+

7. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Role Playing Game of the Year

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a multiplatform game, meaning you can buy it on other systems as well as the PS3. But the PS3 version of the game is the most recent and includes an additional race, the Knights of the Nine, which is a nice trade-off for having had to wait for the game.

The Elder Scrolls IV: is similar to previous entries in the series. It's wide open gameplay features countless opportunities to make your own fun, but should you decide to stick to the story, and explore all the side missions, you are looking at 200 hours of game time. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a massive romp through a fantasy world filled with adventure. It is an epic game not to be missed. Rated: Mature

8. Unreal Tournament III - Multiplayer Game of the Year

Unreal Tournament III was an amazing PC release, but being that most computers weren't powerful enough to run it, this represents their chance to play one of the fastest, prettiest, manic online games out there.

Unreal Tournament III on the PS3 runs shocking well, unlike other console versions of the series. It also supports both USB mouse and keyboard play as well as the Sixaxis PS3 controller. Epic did an amazing job of customizing play options to work with the PS3 controller, and this may be the best console first person shooter configuration to date. Gory and violent, while extremely fun, this is not a game for the little ones. Rated: Mature

9. FIFA Soccer 08 - Sports Game of the Year

While Soccer is just gaining a foothold in the U.S., it is the world's sport. As a result, Soccer games are the best selling sports games on the planet, except in America, where Madden reigns supreme. This year there is simply no denying that FIFA Soccer 08 is the sports game to beat on the PS3.

We've all joked about someone walking in the room, seeing a sports game and thinking it's live T.V., with FIFA Soccer 08 it's a real possibility as I can think of few games that looked this realistic.

Combine that with a dizzying array of teams, play modes, and options and you get a deep and compelling sports game. Whether you love the game, or are looking to learn about it, this is an excellent title. Rated: Everyone

10. Assassin's Creed - Action Game of the Year

If you've ever wanted to play a medieval hitman, this is your chance. Assassin's Creed is the much hyped game we've all been waiting so long for, and it didn't dissapoint.

From it's sprawling medieval towns to gorgeous animation effects Assassin's Creed is a top rated game for a reason.

As Altair you will sneak around, a lot, in an attempt to steal, kill, and perform a variety of other objectives. While some complained that the game got repetitive, deciding to take on the side missions should provide variety enough. Assassin's Creed takes the Thief game concept and executes it perfectly. Rated: Mature

Rockstar Games' cornerstone Grand Theft Auto series returns for a third run through the 128-bit generation, with this violent, mature-themed third-person shooter and mission-based driving game. Set in the early-'90s gang culture of "San Andreas," a fictional U.S. region modeled after California, the adventure plays out across the entire virtual state, with action centered in its three main cities: Los Santos (based on Los Angeles), San Fiero (San Francisco), and Las Venturas (Las Vegas). Like its immediate predecessor, Vice City, San Andreas strives to provide a wide, deep foundation for its free-form criminal gameplay by setting the story in a slightly exaggerated representation of a familiar (if not glorified) American subculture. As Vice City seemed inspired by Miami Vice, and the pastel-decked, "me generation" ideals of the early '80s, San Andreas is set in a time and place suggested by films like Boyz N the Hood, Menace II Society, or Colors, where riots eventually brought a whole city to a halt and awakened new consciousness across the country. Players take the role of a young man named Carl "C.J." Johnson, who thought he had escaped the gangland lifestyle by moving away from his Los Santos home. The Guitar Hero series offers its biggest lineup of songs to date with Legends of Rock, the first game developed outside of Harmonix. Fans of the finger-fiddling franchise will rock out to over 70 tracks, many of which use master recordings from the original artists. The core play mechanics are nearly identical to previous iterations, with players using a guitar-shaped controller to quickly match colored notes as they cascade down the screen. By keeping up with the song, hitting the right chords at the right time, and strumming to the beat, players will rack up points and advance to more challenging tunes. Once again players can embark on a career, earning money to unlock new characters, guitars, songs, and other surprises while competing in an assortment of colorful venues. For the first time, players will test their technique against real-life guitar gods.
